Dr. Daniel Garry joins the Consortium from the University of Minnesota where he is the Director of the Lillehei Heart Institute and Chief of the Cardiovascular Division. He is Professor of Medicine and is a member of the Stem Cell Institute and The Developmental Biology Center at the University of Minnesota.
He received his M.D. and PhD from the University of Minnesota and pursued postdoctoral training at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Dr. Garry is the holder of the St. Jude Medical Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Diseases.
Dr. Daniel Garry (University of Minnesota) and Dr. James Thomson (University of Wisconsin, Madison) expect to provide a basic understanding of the hierarchy of cardiovascular precursor cellsand research the molecular events leading to the formation of blood-forming cells and heart forming cells as a prelude to therapeutic applications.
Dr. Daniel Garry’s work focuses on the development of heart cells. This includes heart stem cells and heart progenitor cells. His research is directed towards discovering treatments for patients with common and deadly congenital heart disease and advanced heart failure.
