Dr. Denis Buxton is Associate Director of the Basic and Early Translational Research Program in the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). He received his bachelor’s degree from University College London in biochemistry (1977) and continued on to receive his Ph.D. from the same institution in Biochemistry (1980).
Dr. Buxton joined NHLBI as a senior fellow in 1996. He was appointed Assistant Director of the Heart Research Program in NHLBI's Division of Heart and Vascular Diseases in 2001. In 2005, he was appointed Acting Director of the Heart Research Program. A year later, he became Chief of the Advanced Technologies and Surgery Branch.
Dr. Buxton is the author or coauthor of 70+ papers, book chapters, letters, and review articles. He is a Consulting Editor for Cardiovascular Research, and reviewer for several medical journals, including:

American Journal of Physiology
Journal of Biological Chemistry
Nanomedicine
Dr. Buxton's work focuses on molecular imaging, nanotechnology, myocardial ischemia and reperfusion and cell transplantation.
